I complained that the friction point was too close, about 1/4" from the handle bar grips and he told me it was because of my after market hydraulic reservoirs. If you have to get into the clutch, it may be just the spring that hooped - not sure about the earlier 1500's but the middle year 1500's had crappy springs that were prone to wear and Kawasaki eventually updated the design to fix the issue.
